                        Frayed Double Fabric Flowers

                        What you need:

Fabric - depending upon your flower design, you'll need to choose between 1 - 4 fabrics.  In this tutorial, I used 3 different fabrics.
                        Scissors
                        Circle template
Tracing untensil - markers, chalk, pencil, etc.
                        Thread to match your fabrics
                        Needle
                        Button to match fabric
                        Picture

                        Step One

Cut 8 circles, of the same size, out of the fabric you have chosen.  Here I cut 4 circles of light pink, 2 of dark pink, and 2 of navy blue.

                        Step Two

Fold the circles exactly in half and cut them into 2 pieces (if you are really fastidious, you can iron them and then cut).  You'll now have 16 half circles.

                        Step Three

Cut a LONG piece of thread, thread your needle and knot the ends.  Take one of your half circles and fold it in half again, using a running stitch, stitch along the curved edge.  Continue with another half circle as you finish until you have used 10.

                        Step Four

Once you have stitched 10 half circles, you can attach the 'petal chain' end to end.  Take a few stitches to secure the chain together and knot your thread without cutting it.  This circle is the bottom of your double flower.

                        Step Five

Using the same thread, continue sewing half circles until you have used them up.  Again, attach this chain end to end and secure it.  Now, stitch this smaller circle of petals to the top of the larger circle.

                        Step Six

To finish your double flower, take your button and attach it to your flower's center.  (this is harder than it sounds because, of course, the center is a hole...do your best).
TA DA!! a double flower!  You may choose to sew a brooch clasp onto this flower to use as a brooch, sew it to a pillow to liven it up, attach it to a hair band, a tack, or a clip and liven up your coat, hair, shoes.  Use your imagination!
